Wearing my hat as co-chair of MRS Unlimited I would love to invite my friends and connections who are researchers, research buyers and insight leaders to complete a short survey that Open Inclusion sponsored and designed along with the wonderful MRS Unlimited Steering Group. We wish to better understand the views of people working in research around disability-inclusive awareness, attitudes and skills, both current and desired. As a survey researcher, I often feel that I’ve spent my entire career asking people sensitive and uncomfortable questions. Things Miss Manners, as this article points out, would definitely frown on!  We are always trying to walk the line between asking questions that will allow us to more fully categorize respondents and asking the minimum required to answer the business question. In a bit more than three weeks - September 5, to be exact - a new QRCA-developed webinar series launches. It's called "From Start to Finish - Managing Qual Research Projects with Confidence." This is for client-side as well as independent researchers. It's NOT about how to moderate; it's about managing qual projects to optimize their success. The series is suitable to those new to the qual field, and it's a good refresher for those who've been doing it for a while. Ten topics make up the series, each presented by an expert on that topic. Topics are presented in pairs, so there are five, 2-hour sessions, always on a Thursday and spread across September and October. 🧐 How I learned to stop worrying about p < .05. 📊 The traditional .05 cut off feels natural to veterans of academia, but it can be misguided or even harmful for certain forms of industry research. Why? Because p<. 05 restricts actionable information! The p<.05 convention is all about minimizing false positives (claiming effects exist when they don't), but this comes at expense of higher false negatives (claiming effects don't exist when they do). This makes sense for academics, who are primarily concerned with NOT saying false things about the world. But for businesses, who are primarily concerned with making good decisions, a p < .05 threshold throws out lots of potentially useful information. For instance, we use p<.15 in our message tests at A—B because we believe that 85% certainty is plenty when weighing a political message's effectiveness.
